The Right Reverend Sterling Barkley Sr., was born on August 30, 1948, in Quincy, Florida to Earnest T. Barkley Sr. & Ora Lee Williams.

Rev. Barkley attended the Gadsden County Public Schools and graduated from the Carter Paramore High School. Upon graduation Rev. Barkley enlisted in the United States Army on April 22, 1968 going on to serve 7 years active duty. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. After returning home Rev. Barkley went on to work for GlassGlazer, until he answered the Call to Ministry. Rev. Barkley over a course of 47 Pastored several churches with African Methodist Episcopal Church, to name a few RichBay AME Church (Havana); Friendship AME Church (Lake Jackson); and his final assignment at the Greater Tanner Chapel AME Church (Quincy) until his retirement in 2023.

Rev. Barkley married the love of his life on June 19, 1993, Mrs. Velma Barkley.

Barkley Leaves to cherish in his fond memories his loving wife of 32 years Velma Barkley; his loving and devoted children: Kimberly Barkley-Farmer (Donald), Victoria Barkley-Fortner of Tallahassee, Florida; Minister Melinda Barkley-Childress (Andre) of Quincy, Florida; Quanather Moore of Midway, Florida; Sterlin Barkley Jr. (Edrine) of Atlanta, Georgia; Michael Barkley (Quanisha) of Spangolahem, Germany; Meshack Barkley (Myya), of Temecula, California; Juanita Barkley of Raleigh, North Carolina. Rev. Barkley leaves to cherish twenty-five grandchildren & 20 great-grandchildren. His beloved Siblings : Rev. Earnestine Barkley, Askia Bakari (Thecla), Tanya Green, DaFonza Williams, Diane Joradan (Theodis), Patrice Frame (Kenneth), Mary Ann Myers, Earnest O. Barkley, Rev. George Barkley (Rosa), Marion Ellis (Gerald), Rhinda Mae Bethea (Robert), Timothy Barkley, Robert Barkley (Lomar), Earnest J. Barkley, Freddie Ponden, Nettie Williams (Lee), Randy Barkley, Jerry Barkley, Emma Jones (Melvin); his beloved aunt: Berta Mae Bostick and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
