Obituary

Horace Lee Chandler was born on October 10, 1945 in Gadsden County, Florida to the late Robert Lee and Josie Mae Andrews Chandler. He was the third of seven children (Willie, Sr., MacArthur, Lewis, Lloyd, Robert, Jr. and Sylvia). The family began in Jamison, but shortly thereafter relocated to the Glade Community. He was affectionately known as "Hawk" by all who knew him.

Horace was a graduate of The Northside High Class of 1964. He enlisted in the United States Military in October of 1965 following in the footsteps of his brother, MacArthur. He was a Private and stationed in Fort Elise Texas. During his military career, he was awarded The National Defense Service Medal and an expert in Marksman Rifles. He was honorably discharged in 1971. After his military career, he developed a love for agriculture and became a truck driver.

Horace spent many years traveling throughout the country driving trucks. He enjoyed meeting new people, telling jokes and learning about the many parts of the world as he traveled extensively both in the military and truck driving. Because of his love for agriculture, Horace along with his siblings spent many hours in the fields. He was known to rise early to tend to the crops that they had planted. He spent countless hours in the fields during the seasons of planting and harvesting their crops. One of his favorite things to do in his pastime was driving his tractor daily.

During his high school matriculation, he began dating a young lady by the name of Annie Riggins. Horace and Annie's courtship continued after graduation for many years. On June 20, 1970, Horace married Annie Riggins in Bainbridge, Georgia. Horace enjoyed having a good time and making people laugh. At family gatherings, he was known to dance and party to some of his favorite blues for hours. Horace, along with his brothers, enjoyed spending countless hours together. Whether sitting under the tree or riding to a particular place, The Chandler Brothers were well known wherever they went.

On Sunday, January 18, 2026, Horace's life came to an earthly end. Although his death was sudden and unexpected, Horace lived a full and celebratory life until the very end. He is predeceased by his sons: Kristoffer Jamel Chandler and Kevin Johnson, Sr.; Parents: Robert Lee and Josie Andrews Chandler; Brothers: Lloyd Chandler, Willie Jasper (Earlene) Chandler, Sr., Johnny Cannon, Sr., Lewis Chandler and MacArthur Chandler.

Horace leaves to cherish his jovial memory: Children: Veronica, Meltonia, Deshantia, Cedric (Latrell) and Ranston; Siblings: Robert (Velva) Chandler, Jr., Sylvia (Wille, Jr.) Morgan and Betty Tantani; Grandchildren: Brittiney (Franswa), Quinterius, Ashely, Alfie, Chalaa, Nicolis, India, Kevin, Jr. (Allayna), Ariel and Zoe. Great-Grandchildren: Leilani, Saire, Levi, Nova, Jayden and Kenneth, III; Aunts: Emma Chandler and Gene Chandler; Sisters-in-Law: Lynda Kaye Cannon, Betty Chandler and Melinda Chandler; Horace will be missed tremendously by his nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and The Glade Community.
