Catherine Hunter was born on December 22, 1943, in Ochlocknee, Georgia, to her late parents, Harvey and Fannie Mae Thomas Hunter. In 1951, Catherine moved with her family to Havana, Florida, where she was raised and she called it home. She attended Gasden County public schools. She worked at Wight Nursery in Cairo, Georgia, for over twenty years. She held several jobs in the Gasden and Leon County communities and mainly worked as a farm worker. During her later years, she became a caregiver for people in the community.

Catherine accepted Christ at an early age. She became a member of New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, serving faithfully for more than 40 years. Catherine mothered a beautiful daughter and later met and married Arthur Sapp, Sr. To their union, four children were born. She was a loving and caring mother, wife, sister, grandmother, cousin, and auntie and made sure she was in attendance at functions for family and friends. Singing and dancing were dear to her heart.

Catherine departed this life on Wednesday, July 19, 2023. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Fannie Mae Hunter, brother, Rufus Hunter, and sister, Vinnie Hunter. She is survived by her five children, daughter, Gwendolyn Mixson (Noah DeWayne) of Valdosta, GA, and four sons, Theron Sapp of Orlando, FL, and James, Lakenzie and Arthur Sapp, Jr., all of Havana, FL; two sisters, Dorothy Roland and Mary Hunter of Orlando, FL; six grandchildren, Carlton Graham, Lashawndora Curry Williams (Otis), Chiquita Curry, and Jerry Burks (Leanda), all of Orlando, FL, Corey Sapp of Havana, FL, and Deshundae Cowart of Albany, GA; fourteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
